Exhibition day Tuesday 12th May and Wednesday 13th May 2015 By Catherine McGurk

Exhibition day Tuesday 12th May and Wednesday 13th May 2015

Monday 11th May 2015

Myself and Bobbi went to Asda to get the shopping for the exhibition. We managed to get everything on the list but the boxes of white wine were not in store so we had to substitute the wine for bottles instead. We also were not able to get some of the halal fridge food but we managed to get some of the snacks.

Tuesday 12th May 2015

Day of exhibition Myself and Bobbi managed to fit everything into the car which was all the food and drink, two TV'S, my stuff, Bobbi's stuff, booklets, posters, chairs, badges and anything else which was relevant.

We then met Michael, Tom, Phillip, Phil, Cameron, and Kini at the college so we could get the plinths into Phil's car. Cameron met Michael, Tom and Phillip to place there items in his car ready for travelling to the exhibition.

Once we got to the venue we had to juggle around with the car parking as we could only park down Randolph street for 2 hours at a time, the second car park was in the Sainsburrys car park so we had to keep moving the cars around.

We got into the venue the manager was a little worried that we were running late due to traffic because of the time frame but she was happy I had a floor plan and that everyone had a job to do. We as a group then started unloading the cars and placed all food and drink in the kitchen and the cold food in the fridge.

We had to wait for the tables to be delivered by the college which came by 1:00pm. Once the tables were in the venue we were set to start. Once we arranged the tables they were placed in the correct rooms. Three upstairs, Five downstairs and then we had two spare tables which the manager said as we are using the store room there is no room for the tables to stay in the venue I did ask the van man if he could take the two spare table back to the college but he said they are a company hired out by the college so they could not take the tables. So we had to place the two tables into Cameron's car until exhibition was over as the manager was insistent that the tables can not stay in the venue. One of the downstairs rooms we ended up having to take a table out and bring it upstairs which was Phil's table as the manager said it was for safety reasons due to too much electric in one room so we moved the table upstairs with no problems.

Everyone was able to set there tables up with no issues except for me as there was a technical issue with the laptop but Phillip and Tony managed to help sort the issue out before the exhibition started. The issue I had was that every time I plugged the HDMI cable into the laptop it kept freezing and then once I managed to sort this problem out there was another issue where the laptop had to do a load of updates and then when I wanted to display my animation the laptop kept going to sleep but I had help and the issue was then sorted out. I did panic a little as I thought there was going to be loads of problems and that I would not be able to present my animation but I was happy the problem was sorted out.

Bobbi and Tom was able to use frames for there posters provided by the gallery and have then hung up and the wall as well as hanging Wayne's posted on the wall too.

The window had to be blacked out with black paper but first the posters had to be placed on the window neatly and with cellotape. The black paper had to be measured and placed on the windows correctly so it looked neat and tidy, this was done by Phillip and Fraaz. The issues we had with this was that I understand it had to be neat and tidy but the manager wanted it all Measured and cut perfectly which we did not have loads of time to mess around with doing this it was cut perfectly I have OCD myself and it was perfect but Phil had to redo this 7 times to which I told the manager leave it now it is fine and she said ok.

The food table then had to be done so the manager made sure the table cloth was taped down so the table looked presentable enough to then place the food on the table. Catherine, Tony and Kini placed the platters and plates on the tables and then added the food to the table. I did get a little flustered as everyone was asking me for direction and what they had to do and also for help and I found it a little hard trying to keep up with everything whilst doing my own jobs. But everyone worked well together and we were able to get the jobs that needed doing done.

The bar also had to be set up which was set up by Phillip and the manager of the venue with help from Tom and Tony. Originally we were going to have Tony serve the food but it was all finger food people could pick up them selves so I asked Tony if he would not mind cleaning all the glasses to make sure there was always glasses at the bar.

The tables

We gave Fraaz two plinths so he could have one for his laptop and one for the projector ready for him to set up the room. Originally we were going to have Wayne in the same room as Fraaz but I found there was not enough room and it helped give Fraaz a better effect for his animation so he could have the light off in the room and shut the door to play his animation.

Phillip's Table

Once all the tables were set up and ready with electrics running we had to tape down the wire to the walls and the floors so no one would trip over them for safety reasons. We did have to take it up again and re do it as the manager said it looked a little rough and needed to look neat and tidy.. Which I said we will have to do it even though it looked neat and tidy it was the managers venue so we had to just do it and get on with it.

Badges

The logo was created by Tom and the badges were created by Bobbi

Booklets for everyone to take home

The booklets were created by Tom and sent off for printing by Bobbi

I noticed there was a few minor spelling mistakes within the booklet which Bobbi checked the spelling but with the company they have a proof reading system which they do before printing and tell you if its all ok and they did not pick up on the mistakes which I am a little unhappy with but at least we had booklets to give out to the guests.

Visitors interacting with the animations

The second day of the exhibition we only had six people come in the view the exhibition so we ended up packing away ten minutes early and then had to chuck all the rubbish, sand down the walls to get scuff marks off the walls, clean the kitchen and toilet, sweep and mop the floors and wash the windows.
I understand all the cleaning but I did get a little frustrated with the fact we had to sand down the walls to get the scuff marks off when it could have been wiped down. The walls were very annoying as all night if anyone lent on the wall they would get all white chalk marks over them which people did complain about to which the manager could have warned us about.

Once that was all done we thanked the manager to which she said it was a pleasure to have us, if we need an event space again she would be happy to have us and she enjoyed our exhibition it was very well organised. We also gave her a bottle of wine to say thank you and also gave Phillip, Tony and Rhys gifts as well as our tutors to say thank you.

We will also be saying thank you to Matt and Jessica for providing us with the plinths, Cathy Walsh the principle of the college for helping us with the tables, Brian and Angela for helping liaise with us over the tables and also taking the plinths to the college.

Over all our exhibition went extremely well, minus the few issues we had and we worked so good and hard as part of a team so everyone should be very proud. We also gained great feedback on our work too.
